The Garden

We had to cover the garden seedlings with mason jars last night, there was a danger of frost. There was frost on our car windows this morning so I am glad we covered them up. I hope they will be okay, and we don't have to cover them like this too many times. It figures that there would be a frost after I get the seedlings planted in the garden. I am going to have to get some tomato plants, bell pepper plants, and maybe try to find some lettuce plants. I might try the lettuce seeds again. I will need to find a store, or person who sells the vegetable starts around here, so I can just get them already started. There are just some things I knew I was going to have to get as plants, that the seeds were a long shot for me to try. Might have been better without the frost last night, I am sure. I figured I was going to have to get at least the tomato plants. We do have corn, green beans, watermelon, cantaloupe, green and white cucumbers, artichokes, and some squash seedlings growing. No surprise there with some of them, I have a really green thumb with some of those plants. Might have to take some pictures of the garden, now and as it grows, see how crazy it can get.

Been a long time.

So it has been a long time since I have posted anything. In about 2 months we will have 2, yes 2, permitted drivers in the house. Mike will be 15, and able to go take his test to get his permit. I can see it now, after that day, ANYTIME we have to go somewhere I bet Mike will not be to far behind us to offer to drive us where ever we want or need to go. Heck he might even try to make up things we need to do just to get to drive. lol. (wink, wink) I have been keeping busy working, sewing, quilting, and gardening. I will have to post a picture of the first quilt I have quilted on the machine and not by hand.

Destiny driving????

So today Dave took Destiny up to Ely to test for her learners permit. There are 50 questions on the test, you must get an 80% to pass. She only missed 4, and there were only like 5 questions left and the computer stopped and told her to go to the counter. She had passed. You can't miss more then 10 to pass, and since she wasn't going to miss that many because there weren't more then 6 questions left. Too cool for her and us, now we can be chaperoned around town, at least just around town for me first until she drives with me with other cars driving around her. I am just a nervous mom I know. She did drive home from the Y tonight with Dave, which is only a little over a mile into town. Dave said she was kind of weaving a little down the road, but all in all she did pretty good. Well this is going to be a fun adventure for us for the future. :)

Lincoln County Fall Choir/Band Concert

Well it was a good concert last night. It is interesting to hear the changes from the 6th grade band up to the high school band. This year the high school band is a woodwind band. They lost a lot of band members to being graduating seniors this past June. Michael is in the middle school band, and Destiny is in the high school band. I think I need to buy Michael a white button down shirt. I think I am going to try to find him a red, black, and white tie to wear for the concerts to. I took some videos of the concert, and was going to post to Facebook, but it tells me the videos are too big. So I am going to try to post them on here. I think I have a couple pictures to, those should go on here with no problems. There are only 3 boys in the choir right now, they were up in the top left. Right now Mike is a little short, he kind of needed to center himself between the 2 people in front of him.

Really? Where did summer go?

I can't believe that summer is all but gone. School starts here on the 20th. For a change that is a Monday start date. Here they have a 4 day school week, usually school starts on the 30th, but for some reason it is starting a little earlier this year. My guess is that they weren't making up the missed hours for Fridays off. I mean they only added about 30 minutes to the end of the school day for the elementary. So Destiny will be a Sophmore, and Michael will be in 7th grade in middle school. Growing up like weeds they are!

Summer.

I can't believe summer is almost over, as far as school starting for the kids. Mike will be in 7th grade this year! Destiny will be a sophomore! We got her a Nevada Drivers Manual, so she can start reading through it, and learning and memorizing it. She can go take her test for her permit on September 5. I think she has gotten more into it now. For the longest time she has seemed kind of afraid of wanting to learn, I am not sure what was scaring her. She seems to have come around now. We will see as the practicing begins!

Haven't posted in a LONG time.

So I think it has been since last year sometime that I have posted anything. The school year is almost done! Destiny will be done with her freshman year in high school, Michael will be going to the middle school next year, wow! I can't believe it. I have a new nephew, Carson, born a few weeks ago. Anytime now I will have a new niece being born. I can't wait to actually get to meet them both.
On the 14th Lincoln County is having a Music Festival. That consists of the 6th graders, the middle school kids in band and choir, and then the high school band and choir kids. They will be hosting to Calvary Chapel kids. Then the last weekend of this month is the Music in the Park concert in southern California. Six Flags theme park is where they are going to be going. That should be loads of fun. Destiny was supposed to have gone last year, but not enough middle school kids could go. Well I will have to get back into a better job of posting on here again. Have a good night!

Thanksgiving meal.

So I have finished the last minute food shopping for the meal. I think we will make a cheese ball tonight, and maybe the pies. Pumpkin and cheese cake. Tomorrow we will make any other small easy things that we can make, deviled eggs. Have to pick up the rolls we ordered. They are such yummy rolls. We will probably put the turkey in a little early on Thursday that way we can eat and relax. I think we are going to start watching Star Wars, from beginning to end. I might also mention that Destiny and Michael have already done this the week or so before. Maybe they want to see if they missed anything the first time around? I don't know.

Slowly but surely faster towards the end.

So I helped Destiny get her vest fabric cut out, and the patches she is going to put on it and the skirt. It is sitting on my counter all over my cutting mat. We will have to put it together tomorrow. I think this will be a really neat costume. I think she is wearing it to school on Monday to. I want to make them new pillowcase candy bags again.
My aunt who I haven't seen in 12 years, since before my grandma past away, and my grandpa are stopping to visit on their way back to Fresno. They could be here any day after tomorrow. Yippee!

Halloween Costumes.

So Halloween costumes you can buy in stores are so expensive, and so flimsy. I am lucky my kids don't mind us making their costumes. Besides it gives them something to remember. The fun they had thinking up what they wanted to be. Then the fun we had trying to figure out what we were going to do to make that costume. This year Destiny wanted to be the Mad Hatter, and Mike wanted to be a Zombie. This is going to be so much fun. For Mike's costume we can't really put it together on him to see how it will look, because we are using a shroud to make him look zombie like. I don't want it to get all mangled, tangled, and ruined before Halloween. So I hope it will look good. Destiny's we are making a lot of, I think it will be neat. I will of course take pictures on Halloween before they go out, and post them.

Where has the time gone????

It seems like only yesterday I was wondering when it was going to be getting warmer at night so I could put a couple of my house plants outside. It seems like I am just soo busy this summer, and I don't really know what I am busy at. lol. Is that possible? No gardening out back for us this year. It seems to get neglected by us, even when I have the best of intentions. So we have 3 tomato plants growing in planters out front. I am also trying to grow an egg plant plant this year. I don't know how that plant will turn out, but I am giving it a try. I have a few green tomatoes on the plants, and one red one. I had strawberry plants going in two planters, but when we went to pick up Destiny in Salt Lake City they didn't get watered the day before we left, so unfortunately one planter didn't seem to make it. Maybe it was too much sun to, and heat. Anyway, I relocated them to the porch, I am going to baby them, both the ones that look dead, and the ones near death. I hope they survive. I usually don't have this much trouble with stgrawberrys.
So far it has been really warm temperatures, but it hasn't been unbearable, yet. I am glad. Even after having been gone those few days, and the house being closed up, it wasn't hard to cool it down. Oh, how I want to have our own house, and property soon. It would be so nice. To be able to put everything where I want it, and not have to worry about it when we move. I have a few pictures I need to get posted. I wish I had taken some at the water park in Utah, but sadly I didn't. I was pleasantly surprised when Mike went on the Boomerang, at Seven Peaks. You should check out the website and pictures of the park so you can actually see it. He went on it with Dave, I am surprised that Destiny didn't want to go on it. I don't know why, she is usually our adrenaline junkie. Mike and Destiny went on some waterslides to. I knew Destiny would, what amazes me is that Mike went on them too! I am very proud of him though, he found his courage somewhere and did it without second thoughs. I hope the next time he is as excited to do it.
This Saturday, is the Panaca 6th grade Half Marathon/1oK. It is to raise money for the 6th graders going to Washington D.C. in December. Mike and I are going. It will be fun to take this trip again. This time I really want to make it to the National Archives.

I got a NEW baby niece!!

So my little (in age only) brother and his wife had their little baby on the morning of the 15th. They had a little girl, her name is Sophia Grace. Such a pretty name. She's such a cutie! This is the first baby from one of my siblings, so I am excited.

Mine Pictures from Dave's work.

This is a picture of a Haul Truck. We were going down the county road to Dave's work and it crosses the minesite. So we have to wait for them to go. Because they are HUGE, and would squash us like a bug, and think they just ran over a snow berm, also because they only go like 5 or 10 miles an hour.
The other picture is of the minesite where they are working. Those hills are created from the trucks dumping their loads there. Theses are pretty good pictures, having been taken with his Ipod touch, don't you think.

FWD: Coming home from St. George today.

Coming home from St. George today the weather was so nice. It was in the 60's. It was nice for it to not be jacket weather! Lol. Yes that is our van. If your wondering how we got this picture, it was easy. Dave was behind me in a u-haul we were bringing back to Panaca.

Welcome in 2011!

Well we are glad for the New Year to be in. Not too glad about how it rolled in. To start off with, and I am not complaining, I am just telling what has happened. Anyway, to start off with Friday the 31st, I go to work in Pioche with 2 clients, come back to Panaca and work with another client. Which is a pretty normal Friday for me. Then the fun begins, for those of you who don't know, we take care, as best we can, of David's brothers' car wash here in Panaca. His brother lives in Utah, and it is a little easier with us here to help him out. Although I am not sure with Dave being up in Ely I alone have made it any easier or him, but I hope so. So I go over to make sure the car wash is clean and things are running the way they should be. I find that one of the self serve bays, there are 2, the water gun is frozen and not dripping water as it should be. I found this out as I was putting down some rock salt to melt the ice from the water dripping off the roof. So I took this nozzle and placed it on the ground, out of the way of any car that would drive into that bay, in the sun. So it could melt the ice in it. Then I went over to the automatic and took of some plugs on the rocker arms for the tire blasters. (Sounds so technical, huh?) So they wouldn't freeze.

All this time I had move a U Haul truck back out of the way of a trailer that was going out, and left them both running to warm up. In case they would be going out soon, I needed to make sure they would start. This was the real reason I had gone there, this and taking out that plug thing. and since I was there I did the other things before it got to cold. One of the trailers that was blocked was going out the next morning at 8 a.m.

So I finally get home, we eat dinner, and I am tired from a long day. I wasn't planning on being up for welcoming in the New Year. It was just me and the two kids home anyway, (Dave works up in Ely, Nevada Sunday night through Thursday morning) they were gonna stay up to see the ball drop. You know though how even though your tired with all the excitement of going, going, going, when I got home I wasn't so tired anymore. So I ended up being up for the ball drop. Which was nice. The last time I remember seeing on the clock was 1 a.m., knowing I had to be up at 8 a.m. But it was the weekend, so no big deal.

Well then 730 a.m. I get a call from the people renting the trailer that morning, they are friends, so it's no problem that they called me. Once again, I am not complaining, just telling things as they happened. So I am up, I tell them they need to call his brother and do the contract and then he will call me and we can go down there and hook it all up and go. So we get off the phone so they can call him.

I go to the restroom to do the things you normally do when you first get up in the morning. Like go to the restroom, and wash your face, brush teeth and such. So after flushing the toilet I notice that it kindof was slower then normal to fill back up, and actually kindof stopped before filling fully. I kindof brushed it off, and went to the bathroom sink to turn on the water......but no water came out. UGH!! Now it has been getting down into the low temperatures the last few nights, and I hadn't left the water trickle those previous nights, and it was just fine. But of course, this is New Years day, and I guess it had gotten COLDER last night so it was enough for them to freeze.

So I had Destiny empty out under the counters of the bathroom and kitchen sink, and put the little heaters on in then to heat it up. I know better then this, I know to leave the faucet farthest from the water coming into the house on and trickling. With everything that had gone on the day before I just plain forgot. So I went and told the landlords, told them I had put the heaters on there, asked if there was anything else I should do. They told me just try that for awhile, and if it didn't work to let them know. I did tell them that I had access to this super heater thing at the car wash, yes we are back to the carwash, lol. Because last winter the pipes to the self serve in the attic had frozen and Stephen brought this over to thaw the pipes, and left it here. For that I am so greatful. I tried that for about 3 hours, no results.

By this time I needed to use the restroom again, and there were only a few options with quick access and not a lot of explanation. First thought was Grandma and Grandpa Hill's house, oh wait the water was turned off there and the pipes blown out. Forget that idea. Next thought, the car wash, besides that's where that super cool heater is anyways. Off to the car wash in a hurry, lol. Since we were there and its cold out we brought the heater back with us. Got back home and by that time the landlord was walking over to ask if they had thawed, which they hadn't. I told him I had brought the heater over, so we got that thing pointed at the area under the house where the water comes into the house. Turned that puppy on and my goodness it was blowing heat out right from the get go. Once that bad boy was working it only took about 2 hours to thaw the freeze and get water flowing again.

Well that is my first adventurous post for the New Year! Once again I was not complaining about anything that happened in it. I was just telling things as they happened and how. Then the next day, January 2, was David's birthday. He is now halfway to 70, yes that's right. That has been our joke for this whole last year, and now he is finally there.

Well this has been a L-O-N-G post for me. I will leave you with that for now. I will try to get some pictures of the little bit of snow we have posted. The week before Christmas we had rain for a week. We even had some flooding as a result of it, all the way into Utah. If you are interested in reading about it, it was in our little local newspaper The Lincoln County Record, www.lincolncountyrecord.com . You can also try clicking on the last blog I follow on my list, it says Blogger Login to read, you may be able to see the pictures she posted. Some were of here and some were in Beryl, Utah. Enjoy!

December almost gone?? Really. Christmas around the corner?? WOW

Where has this December gone? I know I have been slacking in posting this month. We have been busy with school, school functions, going to Ely to see Dave, and the minesite. (Ugh....and I had some neat pictures of the haul trucks, and my camera went nuts. So they are gone. Sad.) Jobs have kept us busy too. You know it can get kindof difficult when you work EARLY mornings, and your hubby goes in at 8 or 9 at night for at least 10 hours, and he's getting off work when you have either just gotten up or are already working for about an hour. The phone call "schedule" can get kindof hectic. LOL. But we are working with it.

Boy it doesn't really "feel" like Christmas. Yeah the songs are on the radio, tv. Yes the decorations are up. Yes some presents are out. Stockings will be up. But it still just doesn't "feel" like it's Christmas time. Well I just had to "vent". MaybeI will get some pictures taken of the tree. Might even try getting some taken of the Christmas lights around town. Maybe that will help make it feel like Christmas.

T.V. and Pumpkin Shooting! Fun, fun, fun!!

This is before we took out our "rage" on the t.v. It quit working last Monday. That's kind of a good thing and a bad thing. Bad thing it went out, now we have to get a new t.v. Good thing is that we won't have to worry about moving in when we move. This bugger was HEAVY. Yes I said "was", when you get to the last pictures you will see why it isn't so heavy any more.

This is about how far away the shooting tables were from the t.v. They have made the shooting area in Panaca so nice now. Oh and yes we cleaned up our mess when we were done.

This was after I took my shots at the t.v. I got to go first because I was the one home when the crazy thing decided it wasn't going to turn on anymore. UGH!

Destiny took this of me shooting. I didn't know she had done this until I got home and was going to post the pictures.

Another picture of me shooting.

This is a close up of the pumpkins and half the t.v. before the shooting began.

Full view of t.v. and pumpkins before shooting.

After my shots. Yo can see the crack in the screen from corner to corner.

After Mike's shots to the t.v. We three got 10 each, then Dave shot it with the 12 gauge. Then it was free for all at the t.v. and pumpkins.

My one shot that went through.

Somehow a 22 bullet went between the two pumpkins and did what you see in the above pictre.

Small hole to the bottom left of the mouth.
Ddestiny looking at the back of the t.v. after her shots.

She made it drop some glass.

I wonder is this the part that stopped the silly t.v. from turning on????

Some grated pumpkins.

Big hole now. Now the thing definately isn't turning on. lol.

This was after a 12 gauge shot.

Dave going to shoot it with the shot gun.

Before he shot the pumpkin with the shot gun.

Destiny checking out the back of the t.v. and pumpkins.

That dark gray sortof rectangle in the middle of the picture is a shot to see how thick t.v. glass really is. Now you know one reason why this thing was so darn heavy.

Dave firing some last shot gun shots at it before we cleaned up our mess, took the t.v. to the dump, and went home.

Close up look at the t.v. screen and through the screen when we were all done.

Close up of the mess.

Some last and final pictures of blowing up the t.v. and pumpkins. Finally knocked them off the top of the t.v.

Look at that. Mike put the pumpkin on the right back on the t.v. after Dave shot it.

Mike putting the pumpkin on the t.v.

You can see through it even from behind. lol.

Halloween 2010

Destiny is a Hippie, Michael is Jack the Pumpkin King!
